I have been wanting to do unpaid voluntary work abroad for some time now but dont know how to go about it. There are so many sites on the internet, many of which charge a fortune. I would appreciate any advice from anybody that has had experience of volunteer work abroad.

There is a volunteering overseas project called Platform 2, which offers around 6 weeks in some countries. You do not have to pay for things, you will be sorted out for your transport there and back, accommodation and meals - basic necessities. To do more, you may have to have your own money. It is ideally targeted at those who want to volunteer but don't have the funds to do so. They are also interested in getting people to share their experiences after the event through writing articles, presentations, etc.

Please check the website www.do-it.org.uk for more details and to find out about other volunteering opportunities.

Good luck.

Trouble is, they do cost quite a bit.

http://www.projects-abroad.co.uk/about-us/ are excellent but pricey, but they DO have some 2 week placements which are cheaper.

There are some cheap and sometimes free projects on this website..

I know it says "jobs" but go through the list to find volunteer places. Many are dependent on age, btw. Good luck.
